    Posted: 25 Jul 2012 at 1:35am
Uploading images to Karl Taylor Forum for help, show and critique and comment can sometimes be a little confusing for members who are not familiar with form software as there are basically three ways to have your images display in the post.

These three different techniques are alternate ways to have images show, and you can choose either way, depending whether you have your own hosting account somewhere. If not, then there are two ways upload to the member area here.

Remember, that the individual file limitations, such as maximum file size is 200kb and recommended length on the long side of 1000px for those with smaller monitors.

Also remember that your image name cannot have spaces in the name or characters that are not either alpha-numeric (alphabet or numbers except for - hyphens or _ underscores).

In this self help we will look at those different paths one at a time and then you can choose which way that you are most comfortable with.

So here goes.

Inserting an Image into your Post

Using the "Image Upload" button,

A window open to allow you to browse for the image you wish to insert into your post.

You can preview your post to ensure that the image is inserted into the post. The image path will look something like this with IMG tags at the beginning and end of the path.

This image is a screen capture of the Preview Post showing the image that was uploaded

If your image name has spaces in the name or characters that are not alpha-numeric with the exception of hyphens or underscores or above 200Kb, then it will fail to upload.

Now, dont be concerned that the path is different to the path of the image in this post, as each member has a unique upload path.

This is the simple steps to upload an image for showing or Critique & Comments on Karl Taylor photography tips forum.

I hope this has been helpful.

Uploading images to Karl Taylor Forum for help, show and critique and comment can sometimes be a little confusing for members who are not familiar with form software as there are basically three ways to have your images display in the post.

In this self help we will look at those different paths one at a time and then you can choose which way that you are most comfortable with.

So here goes.

Inserting an Image Insert (by Linking)

Each Member has access to their own Control Panel, where they can see the files they have uploaded. Most times the members images will be shown here with a rare exception.

Here you can upload your image directly to your member allocated file space using the New Upload in the File Manager, browse for the image you wish to upload, remembering the file limitations of naming and size.

Now with your image uploaded into the file manager, you should be able to see the name of the file just uploaded in the left side column and if you select the file name, it will display the image in the right side row below where it displays the file name and details, such as available space.

Using a new Browser Tab or Window, you can now see the whole path of the image by right click on the Hyperlink file name beside "Download File" and select new Tab or window and this will display the image by itself giving the complete path. You can also just Mouse over the file name hyperlink, and the path will be shown in the bottom of the browser progress bar.

This path is what you will use to enter the "Insert Image" button.

The window will popup for you to enter the HTML path of the image or the path from your file manager allocation. You cal also find the path to the image by right click on the image file name hyperlink and select properties and the HTML / URL Address path will be shown which you can copy and paste into the Insert Image window .

Again in the Preview Post, you can see that your images are being displayed.

Once you are happy with your post and that the images are showing correctly, then Submit the Post by using either the Post reply button, Post New Thread, etc.

If your image name has spaces in the name or characters that are not alpha-numeric with the exception of hyphens or underscores or above 200Kb, then it will fail to upload.

Now, dont be concerned that the path is different to the path of the image in this post, as each member has a unique upload path.

This is the simple steps to Insert an image for showing or Critique & Comments on Karl Taylor photography tips forum using the File Allocation for each member.

I hope this has been helpful.

Posting an Image for Critique & Comments or showing from your own Hosting account can vary, depending on who your host is and what the path is to where it is displayed. Hosts such as Flickr have a path that will allow you to have your image display and if clicked, has a hyperlink to take the viewer to your hosted gallery. Sometimes those paths that are provided may not work completely as intended, troubleshooting this is really something that is beyond the scope of this self-help and we advise you to look at the support information of your hosted gallery.

Using Image Tags as a call function to display your image.

If you have already been reading this self help thread, you will notice the even though using the Image Upload button, Insert Image button, will put opening and closing image tags either side of the image path. These "TAGS" are functions that the forum software understands and calls initiates those functions. Whether its a hyperlink using the URL tags, display an image using the IMG tags, the forum software know how to perform those functions, providing that the information that it has been given such as path and source, then it will carry out those functions correctly. If the information provided has changed or is not correct or the path not found, then it will not try and resolve the issue. It has a set parameters in which to work and will not alter from those. Computers are actually quite dumb, they can do lots of things really fast, but they cant think for themselves.

Ok, so here is displaying an Image hosted on another gallery (but using the hosting here to not lose the path if the image is deleted or changed)

Using the path where the image is stored enter the Tags as shown in this image. The full path to the image below is http://www.photography-tips-forum.com/uploads/109/img-tags.jpg

So using the IMG tags as shown to have your image display in your post from your gallery would do the same. Simply type in the IMG opening and closing tags as shown with the full URL to your image that you wish to post.

Please ensure that you follow the term and conditions that the image does not contain anything that would breach those terms. As the IMG link to your photo may be to your own privately hosted gallery, image size of 200Kb is not enforced but is a recommendation to show the images quickly. However it is highly recommended that the long side of the image is 1000px so that the viewer is not required to do excessive scrolling to view the image.

However, be aware that linking to someone elses photo and claiming as your own is a NO NO, and should Karl be contacted or a post here be done by the image copyright holder, the post will be deleted to comply with the request of the rightful owner of the image and that member may have their account suspended.

Once you are happy with your post and that the images are showing correctly, then Submit the Post by using either the Post reply button, Post New Thread, etc.

If your image name has spaces in the name or characters that are not alpha-numeric with the exception of hyphens or underscores or above 200Kb, then it will fail to display.

This is the simple steps to call an image for showing or Critique & Comments on Karl Taylor photography tips forum using your own hosted gallery or file located here.

I hope this has been helpful.
